KAYWEB Angels, who provide development services and mentoring in exchange for equity, already have six portfolio companies in their stable and look certain to add to that number by the end of April.
KAYWEB Angels CEO Haig Kayserian said his Board has filtered the over-150 applications they received over the past six months down to a select few they are now seriously considering for investment. Some of the submitting entrepreneurs will be invited to "pitch in person" to KAYWEB Angels in February and March, and offers will be made to those deemed to be the best.
Kayserian said: "We are very pleased with the constant flow of applications into KAYWEB Angels. It further enforces our founding belief that there is a gaping hole in the tech investment market for a core investment of engineering services to businesspeople with great web/mobile ideas but not enough technical knowledge to see these ideas into reality.

NEW YORK: New York startup WhoIsGreen.com has today launched a unique online directory that will help consumers find sustainable businesses and green products.
WhoIsGreen.com is inviting businesses that uphold the values of sustainability, from accountants and architects to plumbers and farmers, to list their profiles free at the website and gain a vanity URL for their business.
WhoIsGreen.com, which is part of the KAYWEB Angels portfolio of startups, integrates features found on social networks, providing an interactive platform for businesses to reach environmentally conscious consumers.
“Everybody wants to live greener lives, but it’s often difficult to find green solutions online,” the Chief Executive of WhoIsGreen.com, David Burns says.
“Fan pages on general social networks are not the solution to this serious global problem and search engines do not take into account a business’s sustainability credentials when displaying results,” Burns says.
“WhoIsGreen.com solves these problems.”
A WhoIsGreen.com profile contains a business’s contact information, an overview of their services, an explanation of why they consider themselves green, Facebook and Twitter widgets, and a Bulletin Board, where businesses can list messages, articles, discounts, photos and videos.
“It was critical to us that WhoIsGreen.com was social and interactive, allowing bulletin board entries to be broadcast to a user’s Twitter and Facebook page, helping to spread the sustainability message,” Burns says.
Listing on WhoIsGreen.com beta 1 is free and now available. The founders are inviting businesses and individuals to login register their profiles now, in time for the launch of the whoisgreen.com search engine interface in coming weeks.

NEW YORK: KAYWEB Angels CEO Haig Kayserian has announced they will invest up to $900,000 of development services and mentoring in three new startups, taking the company’s total stable of investments to six after six months of operation.
Cafrino, Minute Lister and You Need My Guy have beaten off a field of over 200 applicants to win KAYWEB Angels as their technical co-founders. Kayserian welcomed these startups aboard their ship which already includes whoisgreen.com, Burringo and Do It In Person.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Cafrino, Minute Lister and You Need My Guy, and we look forward to building their products and growing their businesses,” said Kayserian.
“The selection process was exhaustive and involved our entire board. We read through some tremendous online submissions, followed by pitches in person at our Manhattan office for the top tier of applicants.”
“In the end, the three successful applicants shone in more areas than the others, some of whom we have invited to keep working at their ideas ahead of our next round of investment due later this year.”
Cafrino, presented by Jonathan Aiwazian and Sean Stavropoulos from California, is an innovation in gaming. Minute Lister, presented by Chicago duo Amanda Cavazos and Thomas Olson, is a mobile application servicing the ecommerce community. You Need My Guy, presented by New York entrepreneur Joe Cassara, is in the business networking space.
General Manager John Buckman explained that the widespread coverage and acceptance KAYWEB Angels received for their unique investment model meant they were inundated with submissions from people all over the United States and abroad.
“The response to our launch were real submissions from real ‘ideas people’ lacking the development talent or resources to get their ideas off the ground,” said Buckman.
“The volume of submissions validated our investment model of development and mentoring instead of cash, and we intend to make many more investments over the coming months and years.”
This is a new role at KAYWEB Angels, a fast-growing New York company, which launched with the unique investment model of providing development services and mentoring to web and mobile startups in exchange for equity. They are about to announce a further three investments, taking the total number of startups in the KAYWEB Angels stable to six after six months of operation.
Buckman, a board member at KAYWEB Angels, will run operations from the company’s New York headquarters, reporting to CEO Haig Kayserian, who travels between the four international offices of parent company KAYWEB.
Kayserian said: “Mr. Buckman has been involved in KAYWEB Angels since our inception and has an intimate knowledge of our inner workings. He has been present at every pitch during this round of assessments and provided valuable insight during the board’s decision-making process.”
“We are delighted he has accepted the General Manager role, and we know the KAYWEB Angels stable of startups and entrepreneurs will enjoy dealing with a man of his experience and business know-how.”
Prior to founding Buckman Group-Corporate Counsel, LLC, Buckman served as an associate at two large multi-national law firms. He has represented or engaged in transactions with several Fortune 500 companies, as well as venture capital and private equity firms. He holds a BA from the University of Connecticut and a JD from Creighton University School of Law.
Buckman said: “It is an honor to serve on the board of KAYWEB Angels and I look forward to expanding that role as General Manager and working closely with the entrepreneurs that make up our growing investment portfolio.”
The June quarter, which has seen hundreds of startups submit applications, will officially close on July 12. All submissions beyond that date will be considered for the October quarter, which will be assessed in November 2011.
The KAYWEB Angels Board have been reviewing the June quarter applications in recent weeks, and they've invited a number of startups to 'pitch in person' at their Manhattan headquarters. The company, which provides development services and mentoring in exchange for equity, is looking to add "three to four" additional investments to its current portfolio of three startups.
KAYWEB Angels CEO Haig Kayserian says they are "spoilt for choice".
Kayserian said: "We have no shortage of quality submissions and all those invited to pitch in person have a chance to work with KAYWEB Angels."
